New Zealand is a visually spectacular country that operates on a different pace than the majority of the rest of the world. A trip to this corner of the world should be on the bucket list of anyone that appreciates serene beauty and vibrant culture. If you have never though about taking a trip to New Zealand, these locations may just spark your interest enough to have you scrambling to pack your bags and grab a plane ticket.
1. Rotura
This town that is incredibly unique, as the location sits on top of a volcanic plate. There is a strong smell of sulphur when you enter the town, but the landscape is absolutely beautiful. There are geysers and hot springs all over this area, so make sure you make a stop in Rotorua.
2. Milford Sound
Milford Sound is located on the South side of the lower island in New Zealand and is fairly remote. Milford Sound is called the “eighth wonder of the world” and the tranquility that can be felt in the air is as amazing as the picturesque glaciers that were formed during the ice age. There are dolphins and waterfalls in abundance in this area, and if you want to experience them up close and personal, the best thing you can do is take a boat ride with a tour guide.
3. Auckland
If you’re headed to New Zealand, chances are likely that you are going to be flying into Auckland. Auckland is the largest city in the country and likely has the most to do in terms of tourism. If you find yourself taking a trip to New Zealand, one of the best places you can start is by taking a few days to explore the city of Auckland. There is a rich history in New Zealand, which can be observed by taking a trip to some of the many historical museums.
4. Wellington
If you drive due South from Auckland to the bottom of the island, you will find yourself in Wellington, which is another excellent place to visit. Wellington is another highly populated coastal city that has a huge amount of attractions to check out. This city is a must stop for anyone that considers themselves a foodie. There are more restaurants in Wellington per square mile than New York City, so make sure you check out the great cuisine in the city.
5. Northland
One of the biggest things that New Zealand is known for is its beaches and the vibrant sure culture. Some of the best waves on the planet can be found in New Zealand, so make sure you take a trip to Northland, which sits at the tip of the Northern island.
6. Shipwreck Bay
This beach is the perfect location to learn how to surf, so even if you have never been surfing before, this is a great place to get your feet wet.
7. Tarankai
Advanced surfers flock to this area, so if you are looking for some bigger waves, take a trip down to Taranaki. The New Plymouth area has a wide variety of reef breaks and beach breaks that are absolutely spectacular.
8. Waiheke Island
Visiting Waiheke Island is a great day trip if you are in the Auckland area. You can access this island by taking a short boat trip. This is one of the best trips for those people that love wine tasting. There are quite a few wineries on this little island and it can be extremely fun to take a trip with one of the many wine tours.
9. Cape Palliser
Cape Palliser has some of the most amazing coastline in the country, so if you are in Wellington, you might want to take the drive to this remote area.
10. Bay of Islands
Visiting the Bay of Islands is another great day trip, especially if you love fishing. The Bay of Islands makes up over one-hundred islands and has some truly incredible scenery.
11. White Island
If you are into volcanoes, take a trip out to White Island, which lies in the Bay of Plenty. Taking a helicopter ride is perhaps the best way to check out White Island, which is the most active volcano in the country.
